I am not going to tell you hustle culture is bad and then sell you a course on passive income. That is the same energy in a different outfit. What I will tell you is what actually happened when I stopped performing urgency and started building from a completely different internal state.
For years I ran my business the way I thought you were supposed to. Early mornings, late nights, always available, always producing. I was proud of it. I wore the exhaustion like a credential. And the business grew, so I told myself the exhaustion was the price.
The exhaustion was not the price. The exhaustion was the ceiling.
What I noticed first
When I started pulling back, the first thing I noticed was not that things got easier. The first thing I noticed was how much of what I was doing was performance. I was busy in ways that looked productive but were not actually moving anything. Responding to everything immediately. Saying yes to things that did not fit. Creating content because I was afraid of what silence meant, not because I had something to say.
Nervous system regulation is not a wellness concept. It is a business strategy. A dysregulated nervous system makes decisions from fear, not from clarity. It takes the first offer instead of the right one. It undercharges because it cannot tolerate the discomfort of someone saying no. It overworks because stillness feels like falling behind.
What changed when I stopped
My revenue did not collapse. That was the first surprise. The second surprise was that some of my best client relationships started when I was operating at about sixty percent of my previous pace. I was present in a way I had not been before. I was making decisions I actually believed in instead of decisions I was making to keep moving.
The third thing that changed was what I started building. When you are not running on adrenaline, you build differently. You build things that last because you are not just trying to get through the week. Soft60 came from that place. The Frequency Planner came from that place. The work I am most proud of came from slowing down, not from speeding up.
This is not about doing less
I want to be clear about something. This is not a manifesto for doing less. I work a lot. I run a company, I write books, I build software, I create content, I advise clients. I am not sitting in a field somewhere. What changed is the state I am in when I do the work. The quality of the decisions. The sustainability of the pace.
If you are exhausted and your business is not growing the way you want it to, the answer is probably not more effort. The answer is probably a different relationship with effort. That is what Soft60 is built around. That is what the Frequency Planner was built around. Not less ambition. A different foundation for it.
If this landed for you, the Soft60 app is where I put the actual practice. Start with the assessment and see where you are.
